Adult Mental Health First Aid Training Details
- Available for 10-20 participants per training
- Approximately 8.5 hours of content
- Training delivered as 2 hours of self-paced online prework, followed by a full day of live, interactive training held in person or over Zoom (with breaks)
Adult Mental Health First Aid is a nationally and globally recognized skills-based training that equips participants to recognize and respond when an adult may be experiencing a mental health challenge.
In this interactive training, Dartmouth participants will:
- Increase knowledge of signs and symptoms of mental health challenges
- Learn about specific resources to support Dartmouth students and employees who may be experiencing a mental health challenge
- Practice applying skills at three levels:
- Early signs and symptoms
- Escalating signs and symptoms
- Crisis situations*
*Eight types of crisis situations are covered such as panic attacks, overdose, and suicide risk.
Participants who complete Adult Mental Health First training receive certification through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
At Dartmouth, the primary audiences for Adult Mental Health First Aid are:
- Employees (faculty and staff)
- Students in leadership roles
- Students pursuing careers in health professions

Training Recording & Materials Policy
To maintain a safe and supportive learning environment, we do not allow recordings of our trainings. This ensures sensitivity to the content discussed and respects the privacy and vulnerability of all participants. Additionally, we are unable to share our presentation slides due to copyright restrictions. However, all participants will receive an electronic participant manual (PDF) with source citations, participant workbook (for live learning activities), and resource reference sheets specifically designed for members of the Dartmouth community.
