Happy Hour

About the Program

Once students return to campus, we will be able to offer the Happy Hour Program. "Happy Hour" is a program developed and implemented by Dartmouth College Health Services and the Student Wellness Center, where a team of Providers and Educators visit students' living spaces on campus (Greek Houses, Affinity Houses, Dorms, etc.) to provide on-site screening for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and consultations for sexual health questions such as:

  • when and how to get tested for STIs
  • options for safer sex practices to prevent STI transmission and unplanned pregnancy
  • contraceptive methods
  • how to communicate to partner(s) about STI status, contraceptive choices, etc.

We provide a laid-back environment to meet students where you live and play - to create space for conversations around sexual health and healthy relationships (with yourself and others!).

When Happy Hours are offered, the program usually runs for two hours (Monday through Thursday 4-6pm) - but we are open to working with your group's schedule to find a time that works for you!

Happy Hour STI Testing

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea screenings are offered during Happy Hour programs. Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are identified by CDC as the top 2 types of STIs reported in the United States in 2016 with the highest number ever recorded. People age 15-24 accounted for a large portion of the unprecedented high numbers of new diagnosis. Chlamydia and Gonorrhea often do NOT show symptoms – which makes it harder for people to detect. The good news is both infections can be easily treated with antibiotics.

We provide our testing based on CDC recommendations - first catch urine for people with penises, vaginal swab for vagina owners: Our providers are trans-aware professionals and will provide care based on the individual's need. Our provider will send results back via secure message within 48 hours and will invite students back to Dick's House for more testing if needed.

We hope to break the fear, embarrassment and awkwardness one test at a time so that you can stay on top of your status and get easy access to treatment if needed.
