Religious Housing Accommodations

Details

The Dartmouth community has students of many cultures, beliefs and faith-based practices. We strive to support the practices of different students around their faith, and provide several options to students for their living environment, such as:

  1. Shabbat key for Observant Jewish students
  2. Housing on a floor with single use bathrooms
  3. Housing on a single-gendered floor

For students seeking spaces to practice their faith privately, please note there are many options to do so outside of your Residence Hall room. As a result, we do not typically provide single rooms to students requesting religious accommodations. Many of our Residence Halls and Apartments have meeting rooms and lounges that you may reserve and use for your practice. There are also prayer and meditation rooms open to students 24/7 at the William Jewett Tucker Center.

In order to request any of the accommodations listed above, or others that you believe might apply, please follow the steps below.

For Current-term Room Change Request

  1. Email the Housing Office to alert them you are seeking an accommodation for religious purposes.
  2. Submit the Residential Life Religious Accommodation Request form
  3. Meet with a Chaplain to review your situation (after submitting the form you will be contacted to set up a time to discuss your application)
  4. If approved for an accommodation, Undergraduate Housing will follow up with you regarding options based on the recommendation from the Chaplain and available space.

For Future-term Housing Assignments

  1. Submit the applicable housing application on DartHub, Housing: StarPortal by the appropriate deadline, indicating you seek a religious accommodation.
  2. Submit the Residential Life Religious Accommodation Request form
  3. Meet with a Chaplain to review your situation (after submitting the form you will be contacted to set up a time to discuss your application)
  4. If approved for an accommodation, Undergraduate Housing will work with you on your housing based on the Chaplain's recommendation, your housing preferences, and available space.
