As director of civic engagement, expression, and learning for Community and Campus Life, Ed McKenna is responsible for leading and growing a variety of programs that help students across schools and divisions to productively exercise free expression and navigate Dartmouth policies. He works closely with staff and faculty to support free expression practices and facilitate programs central to Dartmouth's mission around dialogue, diversity of ideas and brave spaces. While helping to develop avenues to support free expression at Dartmouth, Ed's key responsibilities include expanding the Open Expression Facilitator Program to provide support for students across the institution, creating a Free Expression Advising Program, managing the Discourse Funds that bolster student programming and advocacy, and expanding the role of Dartmouth Votes. Most recently, Ed served as assistant dean for Student Life and interim dean of the Office of Greek Life and Student Societies.
