Best Practices and Requirements
Downloadable Winterim Checklist
Please ensure the following tasks are completed and requested information is shared with Bernard.
As long as one student is living in the house, all safety codes are in effect. You must pull trash, keep the house in order, and maintain all walkways.
Heat Watch- an electronic candle is connected to a temperature gauge and set up in every house. If the heat drops below a certain temperature, the candle goes on signaling DOSS/FO&M to check on the house.
If a member of a college-owned building is leaving for winter term, the check out process must be followed, i.e., turn in keys, clean and clear room, etc.
If your Chapter has a privately owned facility, you should have already paid a plow company to maintain the driveway in case of snow.
Ensure electric and fuel oil / propane bills are paid
Clean out kitchen refrigerators.
Basements must be kept clean.
You must inform Bernard if there are projects planned over break.
Additionally, depending on the type or work being done, you might need to have fire alarm sensors turned off while the work is going on (ie certain parts of a day, not a whole day) to avoid false fire alarms.
You must provide Bernard contact information for at least one person if students are staying in the house over break.
You must provide a list of winterim students to Bernard.
You must provide Bernard with contact information for emergencies.
You must close and latch all windows.
You must place shovels, sand and/or salt outside.
Avoid storing anything on the main floor.
Ensure areas behind and on counters are clear.
If relevant, contact ARC about servicing air changer.
Do not leave bikes, scooters, etc., in the driveway, on walkways or in any place that would impede clearing snow.
Electric scooters should not be left in the house, at the very least not left charging.
Do you need to schedule a furnace cleaning? If, yes, do so.
