Incoming Class

Once you have your Dartmouth ID and are ready to apply for accommodations related to a disability, medical need, or other qualifying condition, incoming students should visit our Apply for Services page to fill out your SAS Application and upload any applicable disability documentation.

Although we accept applications throughout the year, to be sure that your requests are reviewed before fall term,

1. Students with disabilities and diagnosed health conditions who are requesting accommodations, particularly housing accommodations, were strongly recommended to complete our online application and attach any needed supporting documentation by Friday, June 19 at 5PM for the class of 2030 and incoming transfer students. 
2. After submitting your application materials, SAS will contact you via your Dartmouth email, and you must respond to SAS' emails and requests to meet as well as potential requests for additional documentation in order for any accommodation requests to be approved.

Additional Deadlines

Please note that Residential Life and billing for dining plans have their own associated deadlines that, if not met, may mean a particular dining/housing accommodation/adjustment is not available or practicable. However, as with SAS, Residential Life and Dartmouth Dining Services (DDS) attempt to meet all disability-related housing and dining needs when possible.

As with housing accommodations, it is also important to engage with SAS early in the summer if requesting accommodations for placement testing and/or First-Year Trips. 

To utilize approved testing accommodations for placement tests, please email your SAS advisor at least a week in advance of when you plan to take your placement test so that they can notify the appropriate department(s) to implement the accommodations approved during your initial SAS meeting. Please do not take your test until you have received confirmation that they have been applied from the department. 

SAS staff and students frequently interact with the following offices/resources and student organizations:

• Undergraduate Deans Office (UDO) serves as academic, personal, and social advisors for your time at Dartmouth who can help refer students to appropriate resources.
• Student Wellness Center (SWC) is one of many health and wellness resources on campus.
  • Dartmouth College Health Service (including Dick's House and Counseling) are especially popular.
• Academic Skills Center (ASC) provides coaching, group tutoring services, and strategy instruction to strengthen skills such as time management, studying, managing workload, and notetaking.

• Many neurodiverse or disabled students, whether they are registered with SAS or not, find Access Dartmouth and the Dartmouth Student Mental Health Union helpful in navigating their Dartmouth experience and providing a platform to enhance campus climate for all students.

• Prioritize completing required language and/or math courses first, as these skills fade the most quickly when not practiced. Putting these courses off will only make them more challenging. 
• Complete your 3 Wellness Education (WE) credits early (and ideally in your first year), as classes such as the SWC & ASC Wellness Sampler and the ASC Learning at Dartmouth classes will aid your transition to Dartmouth by equipping you with the self-care and academic strategies you'll need and introducing you to other students with similar goals.
