Faculty Working with the Testing Center

Faculty Responsibilities

  1. Fill out the alternative testing contract. Here is the link to the step-by-step guide to filling out a testing contract
  2. Providing the Testing Center with the information needed to accommodate their students according to class guidelines
  3. Provide exams no later than 24 hours prior to the first student's start time. There are several ways to get them to us. As the test approaches, faculty will receive an email from us highlighting different methods of getting exams to us, including this step-by-step guide to uploading exams
  4. Notify the Testing Center if there are changes to details of the contract or exam dates or duration

Testing Center Commitments

Please note: The A11y Testing Center is available to administer accommodated exams during its scheduled hours and to assist faculty with the implementation of Alternative Testing accommodations; it does not proctor exams.

The A11y Testing Center is committed to...

  • providing approved testing accommodations in a secure, equitable environment
  • following the specifications outlined in the faculty-completed Alternative Testing Contract
  • maintaining the integrity and security of all exams
  • supporting both faculty and students in the accommodated testing process

Security & Academic Honor

Academic integrity is a top priority at the A11y Testing Center. Our policies align with Dartmouth's Academic Honor Principle, the Standards of Conduct, and the Principle of Community. To protect the integrity of every exam, we:

  • Assign students taking the same exam to different testing rooms whenever possible
  • Require students to store all personal belongings before testing
  • Collect and securely store phones, smart watches, and other electronic devices during exams (unless approved as an accommodation for medical monitoring)
  • Provide and collect all scratch paper used during testing. Students may not bring their own scratch paper or remove Testing Center scratch paper after the exam.
  • Conduct routine monitoring throughout the testing session, including:
    • Regular walkthroughs of the Testing Center
    • Observation through testing room windows
    • Restroom checks
    • Trash inspections within the Testing Center and restrooms
    • Increased monitoring when faculty communicate concerns regarding previous testing behavior
    • Report, in detail, any suspected Academic Honor Principle violations directly to the course instructor

Secure Computer Testing

The A11y Testing Center now utilizes one of its rooms as a dedicated desktop computer lab with no internet capabilities. This provides a secure environment for students whose approved accommodations include typing responses during examinations.
