Become a Notetaker

Peer note-takers are Dartmouth students who are paid to take legible, accurate and comprehensive notes in a course for which they may or may not be registered. Only Dartmouth students are eligible for student work, and Dartmouth students must either be enrolled in courses or on a scheduled leave term.

Class Notes A11y

Estimated hours per week: .5-1

The Class Notes Ally position is for students who will be taking notes in a course that they are currently registered for. Job expectations include posting each class session notes to our online database, A11y, throughout the term. This will be recorded in TimesheetX as approximitely 30-60 minutes of work per course each week.

Peer Notetaker

Estimated hours per week: 4-6

The peer notetaker position is for students who are not registered in the course in which notes are needed. Peer notetakers record their time in TimexheetX for the entire class period spent taking notes, as well as 30-60 minutes each week to clean up and post their notes.

Compensation

Hired notetakers are paid $16.25 per hour.  This is a great opportunity to help a fellow student and you can put it in your resume!  

Requirements and Process

Each term we are looking for students to provide complete, organized, and neat notes to qualifying students with disabilities. Selected candidates will be notified via their Dartmouth email address.

Applicant Requirements

  • Attending all class sessions, including x-hour meetings
  • Revising, editing, and uploading your notes onto an online portal within 24 hours of the class meeting
  • Completing a brief online training via Canvas
  • Finding an uploading substitute notes if you miss a class session
  • Tracking and reporting your time onto TimeSheetX

Note: Applying does not guarantee a notetaking position. It allows us to match incoming requests to students who are interested and qualified.

Hired students will be expected to complete the Canvas training course that highlights our protocols and expectations. The Canvas site will also have the appropriate forms for student employees to complete. All new note-takers will be asked to complete this course, and returning note-takers may be asked to complete it as well, due to possible changes to employment procedures.
