Afro-Requiem in Action

Every year in accordance with Black Legacy Month the BLM Planning Committee showcases students, staff, and faculty who through their time at Dartmouth have embodied in many ways the theme of that year's Black Legacy Month. Below you will find the 2025 Planning Committee's cohort of students, staff and faculty who have been active in exemplifying Afro-Requiem.

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS

Dartmouth African Student Association
The Dartmouth African Students' Association (DASA) is a vibrant community dedicated to representing African interests on campus and fostering connections between Africans, the diaspora, and those passionate about the continent. We aim to raise awareness about Africa's economic, political, and social justice issues, while celebrating the rich diversity of African cultures. DASA provides a home away from home for students of African heritage, offering a space to connect, share experiences, and build a sense of belonging. Whether you are looking for a familiar taste of home, a place to speak your native language, or a space to discuss issues relevant to Africa and its diaspora, DASA is here for you.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® (AKA), founded in 1908 at Howard University, is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women. Since its inception, AKA has remained committed to its mission: to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of "Service to All Mankind." For over a century, AKA has been a leader in scholarship, sisterhood, and service, making a lasting impact in communities worldwide.

Black Student Athlete Alliance
The Dartmouth Black Student-Athlete Alliance is a campus organization dedicated to fostering a sense of community, inclusion, and mentorship for Black student-athletes enrolled at Dartmouth College. We are dedicated to creating a community space to actively address the pressing issues of racial inequality on campus and in this country. Additionally, we want to ensure that all Black student-athletes feel comfortable at Dartmouth and are doing their part to make an impact in athletics, academics, and the professional world.

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
The Dartmouth College Chapter of the NAACP is a student-led organization dedicated to achieving equity, political rights, and social inclusion both on campus and beyond. Rooted in the mission of the national NAACP, the chapter strives to address systemic injustices, advocate for civil rights, and empower marginalized communities. Through educational events, advocacy campaigns, and community engagement, the organization fosters dialogue on pressing social issues, works to dismantle racial and economic barriers, and supports initiatives that advance equality and justice for all. By collaborating with campus groups and broader networks, the chapter also serves as a platform for activism and leadership development, inspiring students to be agents of change in society. Our recent work has included advocating for Black voting rights and awareness to ensure the Black demographic at Dartmouth is knowledgeable about their constitutional rights. Over the past few years, we have also prioritized the mental health and wellness of students of color. Our fundamental purpose is to advance the lived experiences of Black students and the wider student of color demographic at Dartmouth.
