MELANIN MOSAIC: THE BLACK REBIRTH

Black Legacy Month (BLM) is a time in which the entire Dartmouth community comes together to celebrate and recognize the triumphs, struggles, and excellence of Blackness at Dartmouth. This year, BLM 2024 focuses on the empowerment and uplifting of the Black community through the lenses of Black creatives.

This year's theme is Melanin Mosaic: The Black Rebirth where we seek to highlight the past, present, and future of the Black Arts Movement through music, literature, visual and performing arts. Many Black artists and musicians within the Black Arts Movement delved into the African roots of fashion, film, poetry, photography, dance, and music genres. Despite the appropriation of historical Black art forms, this month brings us together to celebrate the authenticity, creativity, and resilience of Black artists, recognizing the integral role that art played in shaping African American identity and culture.

This event has historically drawn in over 30 Division 1 athletes to participate in a series of contests and games. This year however, we are hoping to partner with the Dartmouth Alliance for Children of Color (DACC) in order to incorporate fun team games and competitions into a weekend social for kids and families! We aim to expand our much needed social break into the lives of the youth, and to serve the families by providing a vibrant space for camaraderie and advocacy!
