Campus Financial Resources

Dartmouth 4E Fund

In addition to traditional financial aid that enables undergraduate students to attend Dartmouth, we are fortunate to make available supplemental funds supported by our endowment. These resources were previously called Barrier Removal Funds, but are now bundled together and enhanced in the new Dartmouth 4E Fund

The four Es represent the following:

  • Essentials
  • Enrichment
  • Experiences
  • Emergencies

The Office of Financial Aid is primarily responsible for making sure the full range of the undergraduate experience is affordable and accessible for every student, in collaboration with Student Affairs and other resources on campus.

These funds have historically been used to support students from low-income backgrounds to ease the expenses of essential items (medical co-pays and deductibles, computer repairs), enrichment items (GRE/MCAT/LSAT test prep, graduate applications, professional interview clothing), experiences (extracurricular activities), and emergency costs (emergency travel).

The application for the 4E Fund can be found within DartHub, under Financial Aid for undergraduate students.

Please note: the 4E Fund is not managed or disbursed by OPAL.

Financial Support for Physical Education Courses

The Office of Physical Education & Recreation offers discounted PE course fees to students who receive financial aid.  Students must apply for the discount through the Office of Physical Education & Recreation. High need students receive a 100% discount on the cost of a course. Students of medium and low need receive a 50% discount. A student's level of need is determined by the Financial Aid Office and shared with the Office of Physical Educational & Recreation, who will notify students of their eligibility.  In order to receive the discount, students must pass the course. If a student registers for a class and does not complete the course, they will be charged and held responsible for the full cost of the course.

Learn about and apply for PE cost discounts on their website.

First Generation Office (FGO)

The First-Generation Office is here to support all of Dartmouth's first-generation college students with academics, social belonging, and professional development. They have spearhead several initiatives, including the First-Year Summer Enrichment Program (FYSEP) and the Prepare to Launch Program (PLP), which is currently in development.

FREE MARKET THRIFT STORE

Find free clothing - including winter gear - at no cost.

The thrift store exists to provide students with access to sustainable (and awesome) clothing, outdoor gear, books, and more. We take donated items from across campus to help reduce the massive amount of clothing waste that our community produces each year at move-out time.

Visit the Free Market Thirft Store in the basement of North Massachusetts Hall.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH (UGAR)

UGAR oversees programs that provide opportunities for students to engage in research with a Dartmouth College faculty mentor. These close collaborations between faculty and students provide a forum for faculty to teach and mentor undergraduates on a one-on-one basis outside the classroom. Students acquire first-hand experience in an academic field of research while developing skills such as critical thinking, information processing, and effective communication.

For more information on UGAR please email Undergraduate.Research@dartmouth.edu
