Black Legacy Month is a time for celebration, commemoration, and recognition of the struggles, resilience, and achievements of the Black community at Dartmouth. This year, we focus on the richness of African American culture within the context of Black culture, aiming to empower and strengthen our community through unity.
The theme for this year's Black Legacy Month is "Afro-Requiem", or reclaiming African American culture that has been diluted, disregarded, and stolen for years. We aim to pay homage to the uniqueness of the culture, which encompasses the beliefs, values, and traditions that shape groups of African Americans based on their geographic location and heritage. Our programming will highlight this diversity, showcasing the various ways Blackness is represented through music, food, film, sports, and more. While these expressions may differ, they are united by shared experiences that create common ground.
We stand together—for the people, for the culture.
