Freedom of Expression and Dissent for Recognized Undergraduate Student Organizations

I want our campus to be a place where every member of our community not only feels comfortable expressing unpopular views, but in questioning others who hold views they disagree with. The best solutions are developed when a diversity of perspectives are brought to the table; so, we must commit to centering viewpoints and voices that aren't always heard and to brave spaces to let that diversity of thought and lived experience shine through. - President Beilock

Our Role

Student Life supports the Freedom of Expression and Dissent policy by helping undergraduate student organizations:

  • plan events, panels, debates, etc.;
  • work through logistical hurdles, including identifying appropriate space needs;
  • understand and review contracts; and
  • navigate college policies, specifically, around expression, dissent, and disruption;

If your organization is planning an event, protest, or demonstration that might challenge- or evoke challenges to- the FED policy, please connect with us so we can assist you.
