The Suite

Are you looking for a place to get your hair done? Well, look no further! OPAL and graduate school sponsors (Guarini, Thayer, Tuck, and Geisel) partner with The Suite to bring stylists specializing in coily, wavy, and textured hair to Dartmouth. The Suite service prioritizes students, both undergraduate and graduate, and is open to all members of the community: students, staff, faculty, and family.

Service Price $60 or less: $10 off
Service Price $61 to $100: $15 off
Service Price $100+: $20 off

Schedule a stylist appointment on the Suite website. Booking opens 2 weeks prior to the event date. Students may use their Dartmouth email address to access the discount.

Looking for additional services that are a short distance away from campus? Touch by Sofie is a local beautician located in Lebanon, NH. Her salon specializes in braided styles as well as silk presses and wigs.

Shabazz Center

32 N. Main Street

The Shabazz Center is a residential space in Cutter Hall, which is part of Dartmouth's Living Learning Community program. Student groups and organizations may reserve the Basement and the Mural Room on the first floor. It is first and foremost a residential space; in using the Center several rules and regulations are key in ensuring a safe, accessible space for the residents as well as the guest who desire to share the space.

African and African-American Studies Program

The African and African-American Studies Program is designed to provide all students at Dartmouth with an understanding of the historical, economic, political, social, and artistic experiences of people of African ancestry in North America, South America, the Caribbean, Africa, and elsewhere.

Black Alumni of Dartmouth Association

The mission of the Black Alumni of Dartmouth Association is to develop a strong and enduring club structure in order to further the interest, welfare and educational purposes of Dartmouth College and the Black Alumni community of Dartmouth College. BADA’s vision is to enhance members' relationships with each other by being a supportive community of alumni that celebrates the diversity of the Black experience at Dartmouth.

Institute for Black Intellectual and Cultural Life

The Institute for Black Intellectual and Cultural Life is a research center rooted in the study of the Black diaspora. Building on the strengths of Dartmouth's current Black faculty and staff, the Institute hosts visiting scholars, artists, activists, and postdocs and provides grants for Dartmouth faculty who are undertaking major research and creative projects related to the Institute's research themes.

The Institute for Black Intellectual and Cultural Life offers opportunities for collaborations that include lectures, symposia, performances, and/or working groups focused on different thematic areas. The centralized core of the Institute serves as the epicenter of knowledge production and creative output for Black diasporic subjects at Dartmouth and beyond.

With colloquia, seminars, and college-wide collaborations, the Institute for Black Intellectual and Cultural Life sustains an ecosystem through which the ideas of faculty, students and staff from across disciplinary boundaries are supported and resourced. The Institute serves as a creative collective for Black communities at Dartmouth invested in pursuits that align with the center's core mission.

The Institute sponsors initiatives, projects, and programming that anticipate and shape trends in the pursuit of knowledge production and social justice.
