Campus Resources

Dartmouth 4E Fund

In addition to traditional financial aid that enables undergraduate students to attend Dartmouth, we are fortunate to make available supplemental funds supported by our endowment. These resources were previously called Barrier Removal Funds, but are now bundled together and enhanced in the new Dartmouth 4E Fund

The four Es represent the following:

  • Essentials
  • Enrichment
  • Experiences
  • Emergencies

The Office of Financial Aid is primarily responsible for making sure the full range of the undergraduate experience is affordable and accessible for every student, in collaboration with Student Affairs and other resources on campus.

These funds have historically been used to support students from low-income backgrounds to ease the expenses of essential items (medical co-pays and deductibles, computer repairs), enrichment items (GRE/MCAT/LSAT test prep, graduate applications, professional interview clothing), experiences (extracurricular activities), and emergency costs (emergency travel).

The application for the 4E Fund can be found within DartHub, under Financial Aid for undergraduate students.

Please note: the 4E Fund is not managed or disbursed by OPAL.

Inclusive Excellence

In February 2016, Dartmouth announced an effort to increase inclusion and diversity at Dartmouth. Three working groups - one each focused on faculty, students and staff - studied existing data on diversity and inclusion at Dartmouth, defined goals to measure progress, and established mechanisms to ensure accountability and transparency. In May, 2016 these groups made their recommendations to an Executive Committee for both short- and long-term actions to achieve a more inclusive and diverse campus. The Executive Committee, with input from alumni, in partnership with advancement, consolidated the working group recommendations into an Action Plan for Inclusive Excellence, shared with the community on May 27, 2016. The Inclusive Excellence website tracks progress made against the goals laid out in that plan.
