La Casa

La Casa is sponsored by the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and is designed to serve as a center and meeting place for a wide variety of activities related to Hispanic, Latino, Latin American, Spanish and Luso-Brazilian cultures and languages. These activities take place over the entire academic year, and can include invited speakers, workshops, video and film series, meals, round table discussions, gatherings of student organizations, ‘fiestas,’ and other activities. Residents of La Casa take an active role in programming activities and events for the house and its community. The goal of La Casa is to provide a cultural, social, and linguistic immersion experience for students on the Dartmouth College campus.

• The official language of La Casa is Spanish. Students residing at La Casa are expected to speak only Spanish in group situations and in the public spaces in the house. Residents are also strongly encouraged to speak Spanish at all times among themselves, with the Live-In Advisor, and with Spanish-speaking guests.
• Residents of La Casa are required to attend at least 75% of programmed events for every term in which they reside in the community. These events include scheduled dinners, academic and cultural programs, and community development activities.
• Students residing at La Casa will be expected to live and work in a cooperative spirit, sharing household maintenance duties and kitchen responsibilities.
• Participates in a termly House Day
• La Casa is a substance-free community.
