For Faculty & Staff

The Academic Skills Center (ASC) is committed to partnering with faculty & staff to create a supportive academic environment in which all Dartmouth undergraduate students can develop the skills and strategies needed for success. Through academic coaching, peer tutoring, academic success programming, and learning-focused courses, the ASC helps students become more effective and confident learners.

Whether you are looking to refer a student, share support resources, or collaborate on programming, we are here to help.

Talking with Students About Academic Challenges

Faculty & Staff are often the first to recognize when a student may be struggling academically. Early conversations can help students connect with support before challenges become more significant.

Signs a Student May Benefit from ASC Support

  • Difficulty managing coursework or deadlines
  • Declining academic performance
  • Missed assignments
  • Test anxiety or exam preparation concerns
  • Ineffective study habits
  • Challenges adjusting to Dartmouth's academic environment
  • Difficulty balancing competing responsibilities

Starting the Conversation

When speaking with students, consider normalizing academic support:

"Many students benefit from connecting with the Academic Skills Center. They can work with an Academic Coach or attend tutoring and programs that focus on study strategies, time management, reading techniques, and exam preparation."

The ASC works with students across a wide range of academic experiences, from those seeking enrichment and stronger study strategies to those navigating academic difficulties.
