Sophomore Year Checklist

General Information

  • Watch for events regarding the major selection process – the Undergraduate Deans Office, Center for Professional Development, Pre-Major Advising, Pre-Health Advising and others will offer and advertise programs that can support your selection process.

Stay on Track to Graduate

  • Declare a major (by the last day of classes in your 5th term in residence)
  • BannerStudent: DegreeWorks (Degree Audit) – be sure to scroll all the way down!
  • Review your degree audit and watch for your degree requirements including:
    • specific course requirements (including Writing, First-Year Seminar, and Language)
    • distributive requirements
    • world culture requirements
    • PE requirement
  • Complete the language requirement
  • Complete the PE requirement (if you haven’t already done so)
  • Complete the Swim Test
  • Cultivate relationships with faculty, staff, deans and administrators. Access them as mentors, and make sure they are getting to know you, so that you have someone to write letters of reference for you as you move forward in pursuing new opportunities.
  • Apply for off-campus programs (LSA/FSP) or Exchange Programs (remember – some have early deadlines).

Center for Professional Development

  • Monitor the Center for Professional Development's website and Facebook page for info sessions, workshops, internship opportunities, etc.
  • Be proactive: visit the Center for Professional Development's' "Drop-In" hours or make an appointment (603-646-2215).
  • The Center for Professional Development supports all interests and all stages of job search, grad school search and self-reflection.
  • Contact the Center for Professional Development to find out if an Interfolio account is right for you. Interfolio stores your letters of recommendation until you're ready to apply to graduate school. Start collecting them now while you and your accomplishments are still fresh in your letter writers' minds! Visit us online or email us.

Academic, Personal and Social Advising

  • To rush? Or not to rush? Find out more about Greek Letter Organizations and Societies and the recruitment process.
  • Be mindful of your own personal balance and wellness and continue to explore extracurricular activities and opportunities
  • Be proactive. Introduce yourself to your dean and explore other resources on campus.
  • Make sure the addresses for your parents and/or guardians are correct in BannerStudent. If you need to make changes, contact the Office of the Registrar by email or stop by their office on the first floor of McNutt.
  • Be sure to like the Undergraduate Deans Office on Facebook for the latest news on upcoming events, deadlines, etc.
