Twilight Ceremony

Twilight Ceremony- students gathered with lit candles

During the ceremony, members of the most recent graduating class literally pass the flame to the individual members of the newest incoming class, from candle to candle, followed by a procession from the Collis Center to the Bema, the evening before Fall-term classes begin.

At the Bema, surrounded by swaying pine trees and flickering candles, a senior student, selected for this honor by Tucker, offers a personal reflection on this moment of transition and what wisdom they have discerned about the opportunity to learn, navigate, grow, and change individually and as a community in heart, mind, and spirit while at Dartmouth.

The ceremony concludes with the singing of the Alma Mater and an extinguishing of the candles as students formally begin their Dartmouth journey.
