Dayanara Martinez

Dayanara Martinez is a '28 from Los Angeles, California, planning to major in Mechanical Engineering. She is also extremely passionate about anything space related! During high school, she completed four L.A. marathons in total, 3 of them were through the Students Run Los Angeles Program. She often trained by the Griffith Observatory, which motivated her to pursue space based research at Dartmouth. Currently, she is working as a research assistant under Professor Kristina Lynch through WISP, helping to analyze aurora data structures and fabricate/test instrumentation for the GNEISS mission. Dayanara is also an active member of Spare Rib, which is an intersectional feminist magazine where she is able to express her artistic creativity in her down time. In the future, she is interested in conducting research that will combine her passion for engineering and space, most likely with a concentration in sustainability.

My name is Vitalii Yakovlev - a '28 and Gerstner Scholar from Auburn, WA. I am planning to major in Biomedical Engineering with a pre-med track. Eventually, I hope to enroll in medical school and become a physician. In high school, my passion was the class of Sports Medicine, where I learned a myriad of concepts. There, I developed a variety of hands-on skills, from athletic tapings to joint evaluations to stretching techniques. Yet perhaps the most important and rewarding aspect of the class were the formed relationships - from athletes and coaches to my teachers and fellow students. In the 2023 State Competition, I won 1st in Anatomy and Physiology and 7th in the 2023 Nationals. The next year - 2024 - I placed 8th in the Oral Practical category and 5th in the Nationals. I am very excited to be part of the Gerstner program, eagerly awaiting the opportunity to join research. Some of the topics that interest me include research in prosthetics, organic chemistry, and medicine in general. Hopefully, I will also be able to join the Dartmouth EMS program and contribute to the community as an EMT as well.
