Student Research Funding Application

Information for faculty about using the application system for SURFD programs.

Application status

When you log on to the system, you will see two sections:

Applications Needing Action

This includes all the student applications that require an action from you.

Other Applications

This includes any in progress or completed applications that currently do not require an action from you.

Faculty will still receive reminder emails to endorse, recommend, or confirm research but will also be able to take action by going directly to the Student Research Funding app.

Faculty actions for student applications

To complete any action on an application, click on the project title to open it.

To endorse a student application:

Click Complete Faculty Endorsement Form to open a new window with the Qualtrics form.
Complete and submit the Qualtrics form and then click Endorse Application in the Student Research Funding application.
In the pop-up window, again click Endorse Application.

To refuse an application:

Click Deny Application in the Student Research Funding application.

To check the status of a student application:

Scroll to the Progress section at the bottom of the student application page.
You will see if application requires any action from you or if it has been moved on to the next stage.

To complete the end of term evaluation/confirmation for accepted students:

Click Complete Faculty Final Evaluation to open a new window with the Qualtrics form.
Complete and submit the Qualtrics form and then click Confirm Completion in the Student Research Funding application.
In the pop-up window, again click Confirm Completion.

Endorsing or denying student applications

If a student requests your endorsement on an application:
- You will be notified by email
- You can check for needed endorsements in the app main page. The application needing endorsement will be listed under Applications Needing Action.
Click on the title to open an application.
The student details section includes information on the student and also includes the title and abstract. Click the grey Student Details bar to see more information.
Click on the Qualtrics forms section on the application to view the complete student application.
If applicable, click on the Complete Faculty Endorsement Form to open a new window and complete a Qualtrics form. If no form exists for the program, skip to step 8.
After you complete the form, the window will automatically close and return to the student application.
Your responses on the Qualtrics survey will be saved in the Qualtrics Forms section.
Complete the endorsement by clicking Endorse Application.
In the pop-up window, click Endorse Application.
If you do not endorse the application, click Deny Application.
In the pop-up window, click Deny Application.
After completing the process, check the status in the progress section, found at the bottom of the app. Successfully endorsed applications will show that it was Endorsed and include the date and time submitted.
Close the application to return to the main page to check for other applications needing action.

End of term: final evaluation and confirmation

End of Term - Final Evaluation & Confirming Completion of Program
- Some programs require a final evaluation from the faculty mentor. If a student requests your confirmation on completion of a program:
- You will be notified by email
- You can check for needed endorsements in the app main page. The application needing confirmation will be listed under Applications Needing Action.
Click on the application title that has the status of Pending Faculty Final Evaluation.
If applicable, go to the Qualtrics Form section and click on Complete Faculty Final Evaluation form to open a new window and complete the Qualtrics form. If no form exists for the program, skip to step 6.
After you complete the form, the window will automatically close and return to the application.
Your responses on the Qualtrics survey will be saved in the Qualtrics Forms section.
Click Confirm Completion.
In the pop-up window, again click Confirm Completion.
After completing the process, check the status in the progress section, found at the bottom of the app. Successfully completed applications will show status as Confirmed and include the date and time submitted.
