Cape Town Social Transformation Cohort Internship

The Cape Town Social Transformation Cohort Internships are partnered internships developed by the Dartmouth Center for Social Impact. We work with vetted, innovative nonprofits to design robust impactful internships.

As part of this cohort, students will work for local nonprofits in Cape Town, a city home to many inspirational leaders and changemakers. The internship roles will focus on social transformation from a variety of angles including gender justice, economic and land justice, and youth and workforce development. Students will be placed in internships by DCSI based on their skillsets.

Interns will live and learn alongside their Dartmouth peers in a cohort designed to provide support and a learning community throughout the summer term.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

  • 10-week full-time summer internship in Cape Town, South Africa (approximate dates June 14th through August 31st)

  • Interns are provided a stipend to help offset summer living costs

  • Pre-departure workshop

Housing and Living Stipends

For our cohort internship program, DCSI coordinates and pays for student housing. The housing in Cape Town includes single rooms in a shared house space (with shared common spaces and kitchens) with other international interns, students, and young professionals. The housing is located in the vibrant suburb of Observatory near to the University of Cape Town and the city's Central Business District.

DCSI pays for housing and for transportation costs to and from Cape Town. Students also receive a stipend check to cover living expenses during the internship such as groceries and daily transportation. This estimated living stipend for 2024 is $2,500.
