Now in its fifth year, this trip along the Texas-Mexico border engages students in the nuances of immigration policy and asylum-seeking. Lenses we use to examine these issues include race, LGBTQIA+ identities, environmental conservation, geography, community organizing, indigeneity, public health, gentrification, democracy, religion, and art-as-activism.
Conceptual and logistical preparation for the trip happens in weekly 2-hour workshops in the fall. During the trip, students will continue their learning with different organizations and participate in some direct service
We ask students/families to cover $500—about 15% of the total per-student cost of the trip. However, cost should not be a barrier to participation. Scholarships are available from the Center for Social Impact.
