Driver Approval Process

To become a driver for the Center for Social Impact, you must first complete the approval process to become a "College Approved Driver " and then attend a training at the Center for Social Impact.

To apply for approval as a College Approved Driver, you must have a need to operate a vehicle for use in connection with a college-sponsored activity and hold a valid US or Canadian driver's license. It is expected that all approved College drivers will comply with local and state requirements, as well as the Dartmouth College Driver and Student Driver policies.

  1. Email the completed Student Driver Application and a scan of the front AND back of your driver's license to Social.Impact.Cars@dartmouth.edu. Note: Make sure you have checked YES for the question, "Will you drive large passenger vans (12-person+), micro buses, or tow trailers?" You are welcome to stop by the Center for Social Impact in South Fairbanks (located on the second floor) to pick up a Student Driver Application and use the printer to scan your license.
  2. Your application and license will be shared with Transportation Services.
  3. Look out for the College-sponsored online Driver Safety Course on Canvas. Complete the course with 90% or above within 3 business days. Upon successful completion of the Defensive Driver course, you will be considered an approved driver, and your name will be added to the list of Approved Student Drivers. Separate approval is required to operate 12-person vans and to tow trailers (and students approved to operate 12-person vans and/or tow trailers must recertify annually).
  4. Email Transportation Services, Transportation.Services@Dartmouth.edu a notification of your completion and wait for confirmation.
  5. Send Social.Impact.Cars@dartmouth.edu confirmation of satisfactory Driver Safety Course completion.
  6. After completing the College Driver Safety Program, you must come to the Center for Social Impact to review our driver rules. This is a 20-minute, in-person training, that happens every WEDNESDAY at either 10:15am or 4:15pm (located in South Fairbanks on the second floor). Please make sure to complete this at least three business days before you are scheduled to drive.
