Strengthening Educational Access with Dartmouth (SEAD)

Program Details

In Strengthening Educational Access with Dartmouth (SEAD), students work with Upper Valley youth to help them develop habits and skills needed to thrive in high school and succeed in the best college for them. The program serves a cohort of first-generation and/or low-income high school students starting in their sophomore year of high school and continuing into college.

Academic Year Opportunity

Time Commitment: 3-4 hours/week for at least two consecutive terms (fall/winter or winter/spring), during the 2A/3B time slot

Setting: Local Upper Valley high schools

Group or One-on-One: Group

Population supported: First-generation and/or low-income high school students, ages 15-19

Summer Opportunity #1: Paid Summer Staff (open to first-years, juniors, and seniors)

Work with a cohort of 6-8 peers to support first-generation and/or low-income high school students as they immerse in a mini-college experience. Pays a $1000 stipend.

Time Commitment: Full week in late June. All day.

Setting: Campus

Group or One-on-One: Group

Population supported: First-generation and/or low-income high school students, ages 15-19

Application: Will open at the start of Spring 2025.

Summer Opportunity #2: Sophomore Summer Mentor 

Sophomore Summer Mentors are volunteers who support the high school scholars on homework completion (especially writing) and adjustment to college life. 

Time Commitment: 1 hour per day, in the evening, for the 5 weekdays that the high school scholars are on campus

Population supported: First-generation and/or low-income high school students, ages 15-19
