Marine Biological Laboratory Fellowship

The Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, Mass., offers a full-time, summer research fellowship.

About the Fellowship

The E.E. Just Marine Biological Laboratory Internship is a two-year program that provides funding for up to two Dartmouth undergraduates to participate in “Biological Discovery in Woods Hole” (BDWH) an REU Program directed by the world renowned Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL). The successful applicant will have the opportunity to conduct research with world leaders in molecular and cell biology, neurobiology and behavior, physiology, developmental biology, and evolutionary biology. Dartmouth undergraduates interested in majoring in a STEM discipline and who are committed to the mission of the E.E. Just Program, are eligible to apply. Graduating seniors are not eligible for this fellowship.

Program Dates

Mid-June to mid-August

Benefits & Responsibilities

  • Funding & Support: Selected students will receive a $5000 stipend for the program plus room and board will be provided in MBL dormitories located on the MBL campus, and a stone’s throw from the ocean. 
  • Mentorship: You will work closely with an MBL scientist
  • Community: E.E. Just Scholars are part of the E.E. Just Community and are expected to participate in our programming.
  • Final Report: A final report summarizing your experience and scientific findings (due end August)

Application Timeline

  • Late January:  Deadline to submit the online recommendation request form (link active in 2019) with the name and email address of a Dartmouth faculty who has agreed to write a recommendation on your behalf:
    o    Faculty Reference: A Dartmouth faculty member who is familiar with your academic work and/or your academic and career goals
  • Mid February: Application deadline for all application materials
    o    Online student application form (link active in 2019)
    o    Online faculty recommendation form: Your faculty recommenders will receive the link to the form via email.  Be sure they are aware of the application deadline.
