Now in its fourth year, this trip along the Texas-Mexico border engages students in the nuances of immigration policy and asylum-seeking. Lenses we use to examine these issues include race, LGBTQIA+ identities, environmental conservation, geography, community organizing, indigeneity, public health, gentrification, democracy, religion, and art-as-activism.
Conceptual and logistical preparation for the trip happens in weekly 1.5-hour workshops in the fall.
The costs of the trip are covered by the Center for Social Impact. Therefore, the experience has a competitive application process that includes writing and an interview.
Applications for the trip will open early in Spring 2025. We will use the weekly DCSI e-newsletter (hitting student inboxes on Sunday nights) and DCSI Instagram to notify students when the application is open.
