Gates Cambridge Scholarship Program

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation provides scholarships to outstanding students from outside the United Kingdom for graduate study at the University of Cambridge.

About the Scholarship

Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Gates Cambridge Scholarship provides scholarships for graduate study at the University of Cambridge to outstanding students from outside the United Kingdom. The Trustees award scholarships based on intellectual ability, capacity for leadership, and desire to contribute to society's well-being. All fields of study are welcome. The Gates Cambridge Foundation supports around 110 scholars annually, with around 45 scholarships to US citizens and permanent residents. All non-UK citizens may apply.

Eligibility

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship requires candidates to be a citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom, and to be applying to pursue a full-time residential course of study at the University of Cambridge, including:

  • PhD (three-year research-only degree)
  • MSc or MLit (two-year research-only degree)
  • One year postgraduate course (e.g. MPhil, LLM, MASt, Diploma, MBA etc.

Application Process

Applicants do not need to be nominated by Dartmouth and should apply directly to the Gates Cambridge Trust and to the University of Cambridge for graduate admission. 

Fellowship Advising is available to advise students and alumni on the application process.
