The Beinecke Scholarship Program awards funding to support the graduate education of exceptionally promising students in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Students must apply for the Beinecke Scholarship during their junior year.
Twenty scholarships are awarded each year to students from participating universities who have received need-based financial aid. Graduate scholarships may be used in the US or abroad and may be supplemented with other scholarships, assistantships and research grants. Scholars are encouraged to begin graduate study as soon as possible after college graduation and must use all funds within five years of undergraduate graduation. Each scholar receives $4,000 immediately prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 while attending graduate school. In the absence of institutional support or limits, scholars may receive a maximum award of $15,000 per year.
The scholarship was established by the The Sperry and Hutchinson Company to honor Edwin, Frederick, and Walter Beinecke.
