From Katie Bernardez

Dear Sophia,

Congrats on graduating!! I am so thankful for all of the amazing memories we have made together over these past for years. I love you so much and I know we will be seeing each other soon! Thank you for your friendship and I hope you know my Dartmouth experience would not have been the same without you. I'm so glad we have been able to become roommates, visit each other's homes, and spend literally every day together. I admire your passion and kindness and I know you are going to succeed in whatever you chose to do. I love you and can't wait to see what the future holds!

Love,
Katie Bernardez

Since I arrived at Dartmouth during Dimensions in the spring of 2016, Sophia Domingo has stood out as one of the most-caring and passionate students on our campus. Hailing from Hawaii, Sophia has been a strong steward of her Hawaiian heritage and has taught Dartmouth (through the annual Luau) so much about a culture that few people fully appreciate. Furthermore, Sophia is honestly just a good person and cares about her friends. Last spring, after I lost a hard-fought SA election, Sophia was one of the first people to console me and even came to my dorm room to bring me Twizzlers (my favorite candy) and see how I was doing. My time at Dartmouth is coming to a close, but Sophia will always stand out as a great friend.

I remember being accepted into Dartmouth and finding out that Sophia was also attending. I knew that I wanted to make friends with her but I wasn't even sure how. We went to some events and eventually bonded because we actually both danced tahitian and she actually worked with my dad over the years! Sophia has a smile that brightens up the day, and always gets me to get out of my comfort zone to try something new. I will always remember the times we rushed over to Sushiya to eat or when we would sit in my room planning the logistic for lūʻau. Hoʻomaikaʻi iā ʻoe e Sophia! A hui hou.

Sophia, you light up a room when you walk into it. You exude kindness and love. I am so grateful that I got to work alongside you this year in the planning of ʻau. I wish you the very best in all your future endeavors!

From Mama and Daddy

This day came much quicker than expected & now that it is here, our hearts are so grateful and as always, full of joy to be your parents!

We named you well, Sophia Nanea, you have wisdom as well as a tranquil and an enjoyable presence. Growing up you were always the quiet one, and yet you had a lot to say. Well, you found your "loud" voice at Dartmouth - hearing you speak to your friends now, we were shocked by how loud & boisterous you can be! We are so happy that amidst the hard work you also got to have a lot of fun.

We are so proud of you for following your dreams, overcoming the obstacles that popped up along the way, and completing this difficult college journey. You stayed focused, dedicated & worked hard. You poured yourself into reaching your goals & with the help of God & blessings from all who love you, you accomplished an amazing achievement! I know your grandparents are smiling down upon you and Grandma Dorothy is boasting (and toasting to you) with all her friends!

Your bright smile has brought so much love to your family and now you can use it to bring light into this world.

We love you!!
Mama & Daddy

Thank you so much Sophia for always being there for me and being the most loyal friend any person could ask for. I don't have many close friends, but you are most definitely one of them and are the reason I was able to get through so many tough times here at Dartmouth. You are the most kind, generous, and positive person I know, and I couldn't have asked for a better best friend. Congratulations and see you soon!
