NAP Fund: Application Guidelines
Due to the generous donation of NAP funders, there are educational enrichment, professional development, and emergency funds available for undergraduate students. While we strive to support as many students as possible, please be aware that submitting an application does not guarantee financial assistance. The application can be found via the Dartmouth Groups platform.
The fund can cover costs associated with the following items:
• Supplemental academic and physical education course fees
• Graduate and professional school test preparation courses and fees
• Travel expenses to participate in off-campus career development programs
• Job search expenses, including application costs, appropriate clothing for interviews, travel expenses, etc.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at Dartmouth
- Must meet any specific criteria relevant to the purpose of the funding (e.g., for conferences, a paper/presentation may be required).
Funding Availability
Applicants may apply once per academic year, funding is subject to program availability and is not guaranteed.
Funding Tiers:
Tier 1: Partial to full funding for individual educational enrichment opportunities. Including but not limited to travel expenses to participate in off-campus programs.
Tier 2: Partial to full funding for supplemental academic and physical education course fees, graduate and professional school test preparation courses and fees, and workshops.
Tier 3: Partial to full funding for Emergency: funerals, family emergencies.
How to Apply
Application Form: Complete and submit the funding application form available at dartgo.org/napfund.
Required Documents:
- A detailed description of what you are requesting funding for.
- A clear budget outlining the projected expenses.
- Any relevant supporting materials (e.g., invitation letters for conferences, program acceptance).
Deadline: Applications for Educational Enrichment Funding must be submitted 60 days prior with decisions announced within 5-7 business days.
Funding Decision Criteria
- Relevance: The opportunity must be academically or professionally relevant to the student's field of study.
- Need: Financial need will be considered, especially if applicants are requesting partial funding or have extenuating financial circumstances.
- Impact: The expected impact of the enrichment activity on the student's academic and professional development.
- Feasibility: A well-structured budget and plan for how the funds will be used effectively.
Funding Distribution
- Reimbursement: Will not be covered by the NAP.
- Advance Payment: Will only be considered if 3 months notice is given (application is submitted)
- Partial Funding: If the program cannot fully fund a request, applicants will be notified of the partial funding available.
Program Reporting and Follow-up
- Recipients must submit a brief report summarizing their experience and how the funding was utilized within two weeks of completing the activity.
- Applicants should outline how the enrichment opportunity contributed to their academic or professional goals.
- Receipts or documentation of expenses must be submitted within 7 days after the activity is completed.
Terms and Conditions
- Accountability: Students are expected to use the funds in accordance with the approved budget. Any significant changes must be reported immediately.
- Non-Transferable: Funding is non-transferable and cannot be applied to activities for other individuals or non-eligible students.
- Repayment: If funds are misused, recipients may be required to repay the funds.
Additional Notes
- Early Application: It is strongly recommended to apply as early as possible, especially for time-sensitive opportunities (e.g., conferences with limited registration deadlines).
- Additional Funding Opportunities: Some students may be eligible for multiple funding programs. Please consult with the Native American Program to explore other available options at Dartmouth.
