We're excited to announce a dramatically expanded program supported by a $13 million gift, including a $10 million endowment grant from George "Skip" Battle '66. These donations are an integral component of Dartmouth's 250th Anniversary Capital Campaign.
Historically, FYSEP has consisted of a 5-day pre-Orientation session combined with ongoing programming, advising, and peer-to-peer mentoring for students who are both first-generation and low income. Students have valued the strong connection to community, establishment of healthy habits, and helpful exposure to a range of campus resources designed to help them thrive.
FYSEP is now able to expand its Pre-Orientation program from five days to four weeks, allowing FYSEP students to experience Dartmouth before the start of actual Fall term classes. Students will participate in three academic courses, workshops and seminars with a range of Dartmouth offices and resources, and activities designed for entertainment, enrichment, and increased connection with their peers. With a stronger foundation of institutional knowledge, FYSEP students will transition into their undergraduate careers more effectively -- better prepared for college academics and more solidly grounded in a nurturing and supportive community.
