Janice Williams is thrilled to return 'home' as the associate director of the First-Generation Office's Prepare to Launch Program (P2L). A proud graduate of New York City public schools and a member of Dartmouth's Class of 1992, she majored in History as a first-generation, low-income (FGLI) student. After completing her studies, she earned two Master's degrees—one in Higher Education Leadership and the other in Human Dimensions of Organizations—from The University of Texas at Austin while raising her family.
For over twenty years, Janice has passionately supported students from historically underrepresented communities in higher education. Her journey began as a Dartmouth undergraduate, when she received a Dartmouth Center for Social Impact (DCSI) grant (formerly the Tucker Foundation Fellowship), which offered her the life-changing opportunity to volunteer as a tutor at Diné College during her leave term the summer before her sophomore year. It was there she discovered her love for mentoring and coaching first-generation undergraduates. She then taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in the Czech Republic before shifting her career to UT Austin, focusing on student affairs and program management.
After seventeen years at UT, Janice took a brief detour to work for Google, where she recruited top engineering talent. While she enjoyed her time at Google, her heart remained with college students. Just prior to joining the Dartmouth FGO team, Janice worked at Williams College as the inaugural Assistant Dean for Senior Students and Williams Firsts. There, she collaborated closely with campus partners to ensure that every graduating senior successfully crossed the finish line while also providing programming support and mentoring to Williams' first-generation community.
Janice is honored and excited to return to Dartmouth to work with outstanding colleagues and campus partners to support Dartmouth's dynamic first-gen trailblazers.
