Dartmouth BHM 2025
The origins of Black History Month (BHM) date back to 1926 via the efforts of the American historian, author, and activist, Carter G. Woodson, leading to the inception of "Negro History Week." Later, during the February 1976 U.S. Bicentennial Celebration, President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month, honoring the contributions of Black people throughout history.
This year's theme, led by Dartmouth's Office of Pluralism & Leadership, is Afro-Requiem, "celebrat[ing], commemorat[ing], recogni[zing]... the struggles, resilience, and achievements of the Black community at Dartmouth." To learn more, view their events calendar, and participate in the commemoration, please visit the Black Legacy Month 2025 page on the OPAL website.
