Committee on Standards (COS)

The COS hears cases involving undergraduate students which may result in suspension or separation from the College.

Makeup of a COS Panel

A full COS panel includes two students, two faculty, and one administrator.

  • The Dean of the Faculty appoints faculty members.
  • The Associate Provost for Student Affairs appoints students each fall or in elections coordinated by the Elections Planning and Advisory Committee (EPAC) each spring.
  • Students can apply online to join the COS or OAC.
  • The President appoints staff members.

Types of COS Cases

COS cases are distinguished from Administrative Hearings by the degree of the violation, the type of violation, and the disciplinary history of the student involved. They typically include allegations of academic dishonesty and egregious behavior whose sanctions may include terms of suspension or separation.
