General Studies

The American-Scandanavian Foundation Awards offers fellowships (up to $20,000) and grants (normally $4,000) to individuals to pursue research or study in one or more Scandinavian countries for up to one year.  Awards are made in all fields.  Applicants must have a well-defined research or study project that makes a stay in Scandinavia essential. Eligibility: Graduating seniors (or graduates); U.S. citizenship; some ability with the language of the host country.

The Australian Government Endeavor Scholarships are, "internationally competitive, merit-based scholarships provided by the Australian Government that support citizens around the world to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia."

The Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship accepts applications from the fields of Business Administration, Law, Political Science, Public Policy, and Journalism. Applicants should be U.S. citizens, age 23-34, with 2+ years of relevant work experience and a graduate degree. Candidates without a graduate degree are also encouraged to apply, provided they have extensive work experience in one of the application fields.

The British Chevening Scholarships enable students of high intellectual promise to pursue studies in the UK. Chevening scholars must study in the UK for at least 3-months. Most scholars already have a first degree and the majority study for postgraduate degrees, particularly Master's courses. You must apply to the British Embassy/High Commission or The British Council in the country of which you are a citizen.

The British Council Learning lists scholarships, fellowships, and grants for students of all nationalities to study at British institutions of higher education. Inquiries about such awards should be addressed to the British Embassy/High Commission or The British Council in the country of which you are a citizen.

The William Jefferson Clinton Scholarships is a semester study at the American University in Dubai. Open to currently enrolled full-time undergraduate students. Recipients will demonstrate exemplary academic achievement. Provision has been made for up to 10 students per semester. Preference will be given to students who show interest in being exposed to the Middle Eastern and Islamic culture for the first time.

The Colet Fellowship is a teaching fellowship offering the opportunity for recent graduates of U.S. universities to become a part of the community of one of the UK's premier secondary schools for boys. Colet Fellows are valued for their contribution to the academic life of the school and for their unique perspective on U.S. colleges for the students who are interested in applying to US universities. The Colet Fellowship is aimed at seniors and recent alumni.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship Program offers two types of undergraduate scholarships: an undergraduate transfer scholarship is for exceptional students with financial need transferring from a two-year college to a four-year college and a college scholarship for students graduating from the Foundation's Young Scholars Program. These students have all come through rigorous selection processes and the Foundation seeks to further advance their educational endeavors as they pursue graduate study. All of the JKC undergraduate scholarship recipients are, therefore, eligible to apply for a one-time award of up to $50,000 to support their graduate or professional studies. The Foundation will send information about the graduate scholarship directly to recipients of JKC undergraduate transfer and college scholarships and interested students will apply directly to the Foundation for support.

The Crimson Summer Exchange brings undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni from Harvard University and other leading world universities to Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and other major Chinese cities to teach English to Chinese students from ages fifteen to eighteen. Those who have never traveled to China are strongly encouraged to apply. CSE covers airfare, room, and board. Preference will be given to students currently enrolled at Harvard University.

The Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowships for Minorities provide three years of support for individuals engaged in many disciplines of graduate study leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Science (ScD) degree and the annual stipend is $20,000. Undergraduates in their senior year, individuals who have completed their undergraduate study, individuals who have completed some graduate study, and individuals already enrolled in a Ph.D. or Sc.D program who provide evidence that they can fully utilize a three-year fellowship award are eligible to apply.

The FUBiS Scholars program offers German Language Courses for students who wish to improve their German language skills while they spend time at Freie Universität Berlin. Students must be at least 18 years of age and should have completed at least one year of higher education (college or university) at the beginning of the FUBiS program. However, registrants to the FUBiS program do not have to be enrolled in any program at the point of their registration. FUBiS also accepts registrations by adult learners and professionals.

The Jefferson Scholars Graduate Fellowship Program is a merit-based award that sustains its recipients for five years of graduate study at the University of Virginia. Applicants must be candidates for the PhD program in any department of the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Virginia. Applicants for the M.F.A. in Creative Writing also are eligible. Application deadlines vary by the academic department.

The Jewish Federation Academic Scholarship Program is available for Jewish college and graduate students. Approximately $500,000 is available for Jewish students who are identified as having promises for significant contributions in their chosen careers and are in need of financial assistance for full-time academic programs primarily in the helping professions. Applicants must be born or raised in either Cook County, Chicago metropolitan area, or Northwest Indiana.

The Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program is designed to encourage fellows to enter PhD programs that prepare students for professorial careers; it is not intended to support students who intend to go to medical school, law school, or other professional schools. Dartmouth extends its commitment to the MMUF objectives by sponsoring directly an Associate Fellows program, governed by the same goals and criteria.

Eligibility: U.S. citizens or permanent resident; intention to enter a PhD Program; interest in college or university teaching; sophomore standing during the year of application.

Samvid Ventures offers a new scholarship for future leaders and changemakers, established in 2021. The scholarship provides up to $50,000 in tuition and fees each year for two years of graduate study, in addition to leadership development programming. The goal of the program is to invest in the graduate education of future leaders who are committed to effecting positive change in society.

The Scotland Saltire Scholarship Programme is open to Canadian, Chinese, Indian, and U.S. nationals and is aimed at encouraging bright, talented, and hard-working individuals to live, work and study in Scotland. £2000 is available toward the cost of tuition fees for a full-time Master's level course (excluding PhD studies) in a wide range of subject areas. You can choose to study at any of Scotland's universities and Higher Education Institutions.

The Olga Gruss Lewin Post-Graduate Fellowship supports graduates who have proven leadership in the Dartmouth community and who are pursuing significant acts of citizenship and service to others after graduation.

Lewin Fellowship projects, which may be hosted in the U.S. or abroad, must be full-time, 10-12 month projects with a non-profit organization.  Up to $30,000 in funding is available to cover costs, including the Fellow's living expenses.

Fellows are selected based on the merit of their proposals and consideration of their acts of citizenship and service while undergraduates.

The Fellowship was established in 2000 with an endowment from Andrew '81 and Marina Lewin, in honor of Andrew's mother for whom the fellowship is named.

The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans provide opportunities for continuing generations of able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields. The Program is established in recognition of the contributions New Americans have made to American life and in gratitude for the opportunities the United States has afforded the donors and their families. Award: annual maintenance grant of $25,000 and one-half tuition cost for two years. Eligibility: resident alien with a green card or naturalized U.S. citizen or the child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens; under 30 years of age. GRE, GMAT, MCAT, or LSAT scores are required as applicable.

The Point Foundation: The National LGBTQ Scholarship Fund "was established in 2001 to nurture the next generation of LGBTQ leaders. Point Foundation empowers promising LGBTQ students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential – despite the obstacles often put before them – to make a significant impact on society…Point Scholarships are awarded on a "last provider" basis. Point fills in the gaps and provides funds not provided by other scholarships, grants, loans, work/study programs, etc. It is the responsibility of those selected as Point Scholars to secure as much outside funding as possible."
