DIY Yoga Props

"Do it Yourself" Yoga Props

No yoga mat? No blocks? No worries!

While props aren't absolutely necessary for practicing yoga, they are helpful tools in creating an accessible and satisfying yoga experience.  We encourage students of all levels to use these tools often and without abandonment (no shame in using props!).

Check out these DIY ideas to create your own yoga props wherever you are:

Yoga mat - Provides a safe, supportive surface that often has a good amount of grip.

Handy Substitutes – Carpeted flooring or a rug with non-slip padding, wood floor with a towel nearby to use as a cushion, soft grass (if you can get outside) is a lovely option too!

Yoga blocks – Our "go-to" prop for everybody! Typically, around 9 inches in length, 5 inches in width, and 3 inches in height, yoga blocks help "raise the floor" when it seems just too far away and can add support & comfort in seated poses (to name just a few benefits of these fantastic tools).

Handy Substitutes – Books (either a larger, thicker book or a stack of books wrapped in a towel), a rolled-up towel or blanket, large can of beans, jugs of laundry detergent, or get creative and look around for something that works for you!

Yoga Strap – Helpful for supporting posture and alignment while assisting in deeper stretches.

Handy Substitutes – scarf, towel, robe tie, necktie, rope

Bolsters – Basically a long pillow with extra stuffing to aid in supporting the body for relaxation and release.

Handy Substitutes – pillows, couch cushions, blankets folded up, towels
