Triangle House
To honor National Coming Out Day & International Pronouns Day, stop by Triangle house anytime from 10am-3pm on Wednesday, October 15th for cupcakes, conversation, and community! Come make a pronoun pin, discuss pros and cons of pronouns, what coming out means to you (including if you haven't or don't want to come out), and more. Vegan, gluten free, and allergen friendly options will be available.
National Coming Out Day is an annual celebration, occurring on October 11th, that calls awareness LGBTQIA+ identities and communities. National Coming Out Day has been celebrated annually since 1988, when it was founded by Robert Eichberg (a psychologist and strong proponent of LGBTQIA+ rights) and Jean O'Leary (an openly lesbian political activist and founder of Lesbian Feminist Liberation). Additionally, International Pronouns Day occurs annually on the third Wednesday of October, and began in 2018. This day is celebrated to recognize the importance of honoring pronouns as an act of basic human dignity and respect. As being referred to with incorrect pronouns primarily impacts transgender, nonbinary, and/or gender non-conforming people, this day is intended to educate and empower folks to learn more about pronouns of all kinds, in all languages.
While not everyone has the privilege of being able to live out, proud, and visible in their LGBTQIA+ identities–under the umbrella of the LGBTQIA+ community, every individual holds identities that intersect with power and oppression differently, which leads to them experiencing that privilege in different ways–representation and visibility can be uniquely healing and powerful in finding support and community. On the importance of visibility, Eichberg said: "Most people think they don't know anyone gay or lesbian, and in fact, everybody does. It is imperative that we come out and let people know who we are and disabuse them of their fears and stereotypes." (1993)

All-Day Display in front of Dartmouth Hall
5pm Community Gathering, RSVP for Location
dartgo.org/qsa
This year marks the 26th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR). Founded formally in 1999 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith in honor of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was murdered in Allston, Massachusetts, this day is dedicated to the transgender people whose lives have been lost due to transphobia and anti-trans violence.
As the actual TDOR (November 20th) falls outside the term, we will host a flag display and community gathering on Thursday, November 6th to honor and recognize those lost and increase awareness while respecting the needs of students at the end of the term.
