Portuguese Language Program

This LLC is not currently available for the 2018-2019 Academic Year.

About the Community

The Portuguese Language Program, started in 2014, allows students to live together to immerse in Portuguese language and culture. Students of all language ability levels are invited to apply to live in this community to further enhance their knowledge and skills.

You don’t have to be fluent in Portuguese to apply. This community is a way for residents to build their Portuguese language skills. All residents of the Language Program live together and in contiguous rooms so as to allow for a maximum level of language immersion.

Residency Expectations

Residents are expected to actively participate in the community and be involved in shaping the group’s experience. Residents should speak Portuguese with each other to the extent that they are able to do so. Residents are expected to participate in weekly gatherings of the Portuguese Language Program as well as be in charge of organizing one of the weekly gatherings per term with the support of the advisors. Residents are also encouraged to attend the weekly Portuguese Lunch Table at ’53 Commons on Thursdays from 12- 1 p.m. as well as weekly Portuguese Café Hour on Mondays from 4-5 p.m.

The Portuguese Language Program is located on part of the second floor of the Thomas building of McLaughlin, which houses the Global Village. View floor plans.
