Waiver Information

2020 - 2021 Dartmouth Waiver Informaiton coming soon.


Students who have their own health or insurance plan may apply to waive the automatic enrollment into the Dartmouth Student Group Health Plan (DSGHP) by completing the waiver process by July 1st of each academic year.


Students who wish to be enrolled into the DSGHP do not need to do anything, as enrollment is automatic. Students may also enroll their qualifying dependents by completing the Dependent Application. (See DSGHP Forms for Dependent Application)

Waiver Requirements

To waive the Dartmouth Student Group Health Plan (DSGHP) coverage, your health/insurance plan must be compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements, in the Hanover NH area.  If your health/insurance plan is not ACA compliant in the Hanover NH area, you will not be permitted to waive. If your health/insurance plan will only cover Emergency or Urgent care in the Hanover NH area, you will not be permitted to waive.

Please Note: Most Medicaid/Medicare plans outside of VT & NH plans, EPOs, HMOs, and International plans do not meet the requirements to waive. J1 visa holders are not permitted to waive.

Waiver Instructions

2019 - 2020 DARTMOUTH WAIVER OPENS ON 5/20/2019

To waive the DSGHP coverage for the 2019-2020 plan year:

  1. Go to Gallagher Student Dartmouth site.
  2. At the top right corner of the screen, click 'Student Login'.
  3. Your user name is your full Dartmouth email address.
  4. Password:
    a. First year students/first time waiving: Your temporary password begins with '00' followed by your 7 digit alphanumeric Dartmouth College student ID/Net ID number (your ID will start with "F" or "D").

    b. Returning students (who waived for the 18-19 academic year): You updated your password when you submitted your waiver last year, skip the next two steps and go to number 7. If you have forgotten your password, please click the "Forgot Password" link to have a password reset sent to your Dartmouth College email address.                                                                                                                                                                      
  5. You will be prompted to reset your passwordthe first time you log in. A secure link will be sent to your school email address to complete the process . Once the password is reset you will not receive a prompt again.
  6. Go back to Gallagher Student, and on the left toolbar, click 'Student Waive'.
  7. Select the red "I want to Waive" button. Please have your current health insurance ID card ready as you will need this information to complete the waiver form.
  8. Once you have completed the waiver form, print or write down your reference number. Receipt of this number only confirms submission, not acceptance, of your form.
