Activities, Clubs, Etc:
Dartmouth Alliance for Children of Color has been my baby at Dartmouth! Mentoring children is so dear to my heart and it connected me to the upper valley community. Black Girls Are Magic welcomed me into a community of loving women on campus. FYSEP supported me throughout, introducing me to friends and my wonderful mentees. Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority Inc shaped my public service on campus. Club Swim and Novack broadened my friendships. Palaeopitus introduced me to fellow students passionate about change at Dartmouth. My AAAS classes and professors made me feel present and passionate about social justice.
Culminating Project:
For my AAAS culminating experience, I wrote and directed a short animation that educates people about the bias in technology and empowers them to envision an Afro-futurist (and abolitionist) world. The script narrates how Afro-futurism can pave the way for a society free of biased technology. New technologies, such as facial recognition and health care algorithms, reproduce existing inequalities, often discriminating against Black people. This project discusses the legacies of slavery and underrepresentation of minorities in sci-fy, to envision an Afro-futurist world where technology is community (and not capitalist) driven. The title is still in the works, but can be temporarily referred to as 'Race, Technology, and Afro-Futurism' Thanks to the support from the Dartmouth Digital Humanities and Social Engagement Research Fellowship and African and African American Studies department, I hired three animators, a sound editor and voice actor to bring my vision to life.
Will miss about Dartmouth:
Theres so much! Seeing my friends everyday, taking cool aaas and film classes, working at novack, dacc playdates, hop dinners, the ring man, winter carnival, the acai bowl at collis.
