Culminating Project:
As part of my culminating experience, I am writing a research paper on the disappearance of borghi (small towns) in Italy. For decades, many of these borghi have faced significant depopulation and fallen into disrepair due to a number of factors: economic decline in rural areas, migration, difficulty in accessing the town, poor infrastructure, lack of 21st century standards of living, and natural disasters. With the disappearance of these small towns comes the loss of local dialects, foods, traditions, art, architecture and heritage, many of which have been around since the Roman or Medieval Era. My paper focuses on why this phenomenon is happening, why borghi are culturally relevant and important and Italy, and what potential solutions for saving and preserving these towns for the next decades are.
Will miss about Dartmouth:
I will miss being able to hang out and see the folks I care deeply about. My experience at Dartmouth has been enriched by the wonderful people I've met from all around the world and I will certainly miss that privilege of being a student.
Favorite FYSEP Memory:
Going to Jay's house during sophomore summer and being able to check out the swimming hole in his backyard!
Piece of advice for younger students:
Don't be afraid to take initiative and reach out to people. You'll find that there's always someone who's excited about making those connections. Explore, discover, and enjoy new things. College isn't just academics - it's about having fun, tapping into new passions, and growing as an individual too!
