Boren Fellowship

About the Fellowship

The Boren Fellowship, funded by the National Security Education Program (NSEP), is designed to promote long-term linguistic and cultural immersion. The Fellowship provides up to $25,000 for a continuous period of overseas study. The minimum duration of an eligible program is 12 weeks (or 8 weeks for STEM majors proposing a summer program). Though you are required to be matriculated for the duration of the award, you are not required to receive academic credit for the proposed overseas study. The Boren Fellowship funds many types of programs, including:

  • Study abroad programs
  • Overseas programs with a robust language component
  • Direct enrollment in a foreign university or independent language school

The Boren Awards website has detailed information regarding the Boren Fellowships; however, if you still have questions after, we'd be happy to meet with you and discuss the award.
