Ice Sculpture Contest

The Winter Carnival Council and Collis Center for Student Involvement sponsor an ice sculpture contest during Winter Carnival.

Contest Details


Any team, organization, department, or group of friends can build a sculpture for the Ice Sculpting Contest. Only the first 20 teams that sign up and pay their deposit will be able to participate, so sign up now!


A contest held on the Green to select the best ice sculpture representing this year’s Carnival theme.


A mandatory training class will be held on Thursday, February 8, 4:30 p.m. At least one person from each team is required to attend.

Starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 9, groups may start building a sculpture. Building hours are from 10 a.m. – 11 p.m. on Friday, Feb 9, and 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 10.

Judging and participant voting will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 10. A community gathering to announce the winners will be sponsored by the Winter Carnival Council and the Collis Center from 4:30 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 10.


In order to participate in this contest, all sculptures must be built on the southwest quadrant of the Green (corner closest to Collis) at the designated stations. Ice blocks and tools will be provided on the Green.

How Much

A $25 deposit is required from all teams to ensure the return of the professional tools provided to each team, as well as completion of the team’s sculpture.

Design Details

Each team gets to have a professional sculptor make major cuts on the sculpture (to the team’s specifications) before carving the rest by hand!
